Principal Dentist: Dr Claire O Connor
Dr Claire O’ Connor graduated with honours from University College Cork in 2006. She spent 2 years working in general practice in Waterford before embarking on a year abroad which included working as a locum dentist in Australia and working as a volunteer dentist in Cambodia’s capital city Phnom Penh. She found the latter challenging but immensely rewarding. On her return to Ireland in the summer of 2009, Claire returned to general practice in Waterford. She then completed her MFD examinations with the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland in 2010 and commenced practice in Bantry, Co. Cork that same year.
In Bantry she has developed and maintained a passion for all aspects of dentistry. Over the years she has devoted thousands of hours to advanced technical training and to studying with some of the masters in the dental profession. Her skills are a product of this extensive training combined with a naturally artistic eye. She has developed expertise in the highly specialized areas of adult orthodontics where she is the only Level 2 Elite Six Month Smiles provider in Ireland, cosmetic dentistry and anti-wrinkle treatments. In addition she has attended specialized courses on implant restoration, root canal treatment and composite filling techniques. She is an active member of the Irish Dental Association, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Irish Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry. Claire’s commitment to continuing education and modern techniques is coupled with her desire to provide the best possible treatment for each patient. YOU are the most important person in her day.
Outside of dentistry, Claire is married to John and has a daughter named Erica. She has a keen interest in cycling, surfing, badminton and walking her dogs Kooky and Jessie.
Associate Dentist: Dr Marie Donnelly
Marie commenced work as a dentist in Bantry in January 2017 having graduated with an honours degree from University College Cork in 2016. Prior to this Marie obtained an MSc in Biomedical Science in UCC and worked in the laboratory department in CUH for a number of years. She initially worked in private practice in Co. Wexford before returning to Cork in February 2017.
Marie is active member of the Irish Dental Association and places huge importance in continual professional development. She recently completed a hands-on course on the latest techniques in root canal treatment. Outside of dentistry, Marie enjoys an active lifestyle and her hobbies include running, reading and travelling.
Dental Hygienist: Ms Teresa Dunne
Teresa commenced work in Bantry Dental in February 2017. Having first qualified as a Dental Nurse from UCC in 1999 and worked in a Private Practice specialising in Crown, Bridgework and Implants. She qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 2004 from Cork Dental School and Hospital. Teresa has since worked in General Practices throughout the Cork and Kerry area and has gained considerable experience.
Outside of work her interests include spinning, walking, reading and cooking. She is married to Dominic and has three children.
Dental Nurse: Michelle Connolly
Michelle commenced work as a dental assistant in the summer of 2010. She received her diploma in dental nursing from University College Cork in 2012. She is our senior surgery assistant at Bantry Dental.
She has vast experience and she is a great support to both Dr. O’ Connor and all their patients. Michelle looks after all her patients and enjoys her role at the practice.
Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her daughter Pippa, walking her dog Sally and meeting her friends as well as being a keen soccer player.
Dental Assistant: Emma Murnane
Emma commenced work in Bantry Dental in June 2015 and is an integral part of our team. She completed a pre-nursing course in 2013 and has recently completed a degree in Social Care in IT Tralee. Emma has recently completed the Ashley Latter reception skills course. She has also enrolled on a diploma in dental nursing in UCC.
She enjoys an active lifestyle and her hobbies include running, ladies football, travelling & cooking..
Dental Assistant: Ms Megan McCarthy
Megan joined the Bantry Dental team in January 2017 having previously worked in Geriatric Healthcare. She completed a pre-nursing course in 2014 and studied medical science for a time in Bangor, Wales. She has recently completed the Ashley Latter reception skills course.
Outside of work, Megan’s hobbies include soccer, music and movies.
Receptionist: Tricia O'Brien
Tricia commenced work at Bantry Dental in April 2014. She came from a background in Legal Studies. Since joining Bantry Dental, Tricia has completed a number of courses relating to her role, both in Ireland and in the UK. She enjoys dealing with the public and is a vital part of our team.
Tricia will be your first point of contact and she will put you at ease from the moment you arrive. Tricia is also our sterilising and decontamination specialist. She is committed to maintaining the highest standards in this area. Outside of work Tricia enjoys spending time with her daughter Sadbh, reading and fashion.
Receptionist: Geraldine Bevan
Geraldine commenced work at Bantry Dental in August 2015. She is married to Gerry and has 2 children Annagh and Stephen. After spending some time at home Geraldine is delighted to be back working and be part of a team. She has completed the Ashley Latter Reception skills course, a decontamination course and a course relating to how dental implants can benefit you.
In her spare time Geraldine loves walking, cooking and reading.
Practice Manager: John Lynch
John joined the practice following a 16 year career in the military where he held a number of management positions both at home and abroad. His role is to coordinate all areas of the practice to ensure the optimum experience for patients. He holds a BSc Hons in Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership, Defence and Contemporary Security.
His hobbies including rugby, hiking, cycling and kayaking. He is married to Claire and they have a daughter, Erica.
